The high tension cords between the distributor and the spark plugs and also among the distributor and coils can be checked with the help of an ohmmeter. Start by detaching the high tension cords one by one off each spark plug and the distributor making sure that you are actually pulling on the rubber boot and not the cord. Checking the resistance of each cord To determine the resistance of each cord, place the probes of the ohmmeter on the metal connector at each end of the cord, but do not prick the cords with the probe. The resistance must not be more than 16,000 ohms plus or minus 40 per 39.37 inches (1 meter); otherwise change the cords to new ones.
