Mazda Tribute Accelerator Cable

The movement of the accelerator pedal is transmitted by the Mazda Tribute Accelerator Cable to the throttle body or accelerator-control mechanism. In this way, the driver can regulate airflow, speed, and power in the engine. Moreover, it helps the system return smoothly to idle when the driver releases the pedal. The advantages of the Accelerator Cable are direct and predictable pedal operation, durable mechanical operation, simple inspection, and relatively easy replacement. They prevent contamination, abrasion, excessive bending, and unintended movement of the cable by providing an outer protective sheath, firewall grommet, retaining clips, and strengthened attachment ends. In the first-generation Mazda Tribute of North America, a standard cable was utilized from pedal to throttle, but its length, routing, mounting points, and end fittings varied by engine. From 2001-2004, four-cylinder models applied a 2.0-liter engine, then from 2005-2006, these applied a 2.3-liter engine. Both applied cables around dimensions designed for their compact inline-engine layout. The 3.0-liter V6 models applied a longer V6-specific design, with a separate cruise-control cable positioned alongside. The 2008 Mazda Tribute was redesigned; however, application-specific mechanical arrangements were retained for some 2.3-liter and 3.0-liter versions. The Tribute Hybrid has a different Accelerator Cable because of the specific hybrid reciprocating assembly. Some late 2009-2011 models of Mazda gasoline were equipped with electronic throttle control, which replaced the direct throttle cable. These separate versions therefore differ principally in their operating method, cable length, sheath construction, mounting brackets, firewall sealing, routing, and whether the movement of the pedal directly opens the throttle or activates an electronic control.

Mazda Tribute Accelerator Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q:
How to replace the Accelerator Cable on Mazda Tribute?
    A:
This process will only work on the 2008 and earlier models, where the newer models use an electronic Throttle Body which is operated and managed by thePowertrain Control Module(PCM) which is fed by the Accelerator Pedal Position(APP) sensor. to start with, remove the cable off the negative terminal of the battery. In case of V6 models, lose the engine cover, undo three nuts. In four-cylinder models, remove the accelerator cable connector to the air intake duct, whereas in V6 models, remove the accelerator cable connector bracket to the intake manifold by removing a bolt. To disconnect the accelerator cable with cable bracket, rotate the cable housing 90 degrees and remove the cable, and then to disconnect the cable with throttle body, remove the retainer clip and pull the end of the cable off the pin on the linkage on four-cylinder model. Second, unhook the accelerator cable of the throttle body and, located in the passenger compartment, unhook the cable of the accelerator pedal. Go back to the engine compartment, grab the cable through the firewall and as far as the lower end plugs to the grommet, take off the grommet and pull the cable through the hole. Removal is installation to the contrary. Ask an assistant to step on the accelerator pedal and release it with the throttle valve moving freely in between fully closed and fully open and vice versa. Once the battery is reconnected the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) needs to re-learn its idle and fuel trim strategy to provide maximum driveability and performance.
