Every car type is fitted with tires of metric sizes, either fiberglass or steel belted radial tires and fitting of non-metric sizes or other types can affect ride and handling. The combination of tires of different types, e.g., radials and bias belted ones, may have a severe impact on handling. Replacement of tires should be done in pairs in the same axle, where in case of replacement of one tire, they should be similar in size, structure, and tread design. The tire pressure must also be checked at least once in a month or prior to long journeys as even handling and wear strongly depend on it. Replacing wheels with bent, dented, leaking air, with long bolt holes, heavily rusted, out of vertical symmetry, or those that do not stay tight; do not weld or peen them up. Tire and wheel balance is essential in handling, braking, and performance due to the fact that unbalanced wheels may adversely affect handling, ride quality and tire life, balancing must therefore be done by a shop that has the right equipment whenever a tire is put on a wheel.
