Mazda Tribute Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service the Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler on Mazda Tribute?
    A:
To service the main cooler on 2013 and later models, lift up and uphold the automobile on jack stands, and drain the cooling system. Take out the battery and the battery tray, loosen the transaxle cooler tube connection by taking out the bolts, and then check on the O-rings to be changed in case of necessity. Unhook the coolant hoses to the transaxle cooler, disconnect the two bolts that hold the cooler to the transaxle and extract the cooler out of the vehicle. To be installed, reverse the process of removal, and make sure to replenish the coolant and transaxle fluid. In the auxiliary cooler (2007 and its models and 2013 and its models) to have access to the cooler, take off the front bumper cover, disconnect the cooler line (removing connector covers on 2013 and later models), and remove the bolts holding the cooler together. Pull out the cooler, lifting it on the year 2013 and subsequent models withdrawing the bracket by sliding it upwards, and then securing it by following the steps backward and with all the fasteners firmly in place. The cooler bypass of the 2013 and later with a auxiliary cooler must be raised and located by lifting the front part of the vehicle and taking off the under cover and the valve is found under the driver side. Install a drain pan beneath the valve, disconnect the four transaxle cooler lines and remove the bolt by which the bracket of the bypass valve is attached to the transaxle. Move the bracket to the new part as needed and reattach it by reversing the de-attachment steps whilst filling up the transaxle fluid. In the case of fluid heater control valve, to access the fluid heater control valve, which is attached to the engine side of the battery tray, the air filter housing and battery tray/box are removed then unscrewing the clamps and disconnecting the coolant hoses and electrical connector. To install the valve in the battery tray, unscrew and remove the screw and push-in retainer and then repeat the process in the reverse order topping off the coolant. Finally, in the control valve of the fluid cooler that is attached to the fan shroud, loosen the clamps and disconnect the electrical connector, coolant hoses and loosen the clamps and disconnect the fan and shroud to reach the valve bracket retainers. Unattach the valve bracket with the fan shroud, then reattach it by going through the same process in an opposite manner and do not forget to fill up the coolant as needed.
