This procedure is intended for removing the instrument cluster for access to other components only. If the instrument cluster requires replacement, the job will have to be performed at a dealer service department or other qualified repair shop equipped with the special scan tool required to upload the module configuration data and download this data into the new cluster. Note that if replacing with a new instrument cluster, all keys associated with the vehicle will be erased during the parameter reset procedure, which requires two keys to re-establish communication with the theft deterrent system; ensure two usable keys are available before attempting this procedure. If the original instrument cluster is removed for any length of time, take the vehicle to a service center that can download the instrument cluster data and store it for later retrieval, as this information must be entered into the replacement instrument cluster or to re-establish communication with the original cluster. It is not recommended to swap an instrument cluster with a salvage yard cluster due to the risk of severe data corruption, which may prevent the vehicle from starting, as each instrument cluster is specifically programmed to each individual vehicle. The steps provided are for removal and installation, and all service work involving replacing, repairing, or working on the internal electronics of the instrument cluster should be left to a professional with the proper equipment. For 2012 and earlier models, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal, tilt the steering wheel to its lowest position, and move the transaxle shift lever out of the way. On 2007 and earlier models, remove the cluster bezel screws and the cluster bezel; on 2008 and later models, use a plastic trim tool or a screwdriver wrapped with tape to carefully pry off the bezel. Remove the instrument cluster retaining screws, then pull out the cluster and disconnect the electrical connectors from the back side. Installation is the reverse of removal, and after reconnecting the battery, the Powertrain Control Module must relearn its idle and fuel trim strategy for optimum drivability and performance. For 2013 and later models, if installing a new Instrument Panel Cluster, the IPC configuration must be uploaded from the original IPC to the scan tool for later reinstallation to the replacement IPC, and the original odometer reading should be recorded before removing the old cluster for use in the new IPC; without the original reading, proof of the odometer setting must be provided for installation into the replacement cluster. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal, tilt the steering wheel to its lowest position, and release the steering column upper cover. With the upper cover removed, remove the screws securing the IPC to the instrument panel, pull the IPC out and turn it over to expose the wiring harness, and disconnect the electrical connector from the IPC. Installation is the reverse of removal, and any necessary programming procedures for the replacement IPC should be performed.
