Wearing out front suspension strut or
Coil Springs (with leakages, dampening ability, sagging, broken coil springs) must be removed and repaired when the need arises. The struts may not be serviced, but should be replaced when bad and the springs and related parts can also be replaced separately. Components on both sides should be replaced at the same time in order to balance the characteristics on the two sides of the vehicle. By removing the assembly out of the vehicle, use the Allen key to hold the strut piston rod, and the box-end wrench to unscrew the retaining nut to the thrust bearing. Take out the top mount, upper spring seat, spring, and then the boot and bump stop. Should a new spring be to be installed, the original spring must be carefully removed out of the compressor; or should it be reused, it may be left in compression. Having completely disassembled the strut assembly, inspect all parts, and verify the smooth operation of the bearing, replacing parts according to the need. Check the strut to ensure it is not leaking, the piston rod to confirm that it is not pitting along its length, and damage on the strut body. Check the functioning of the strut by operating the piston with a complete stroke followed by a series of short strokes of 2 to 4 inches in holding the strut straight; it should be operated smoothly and continuously. In case of jerky or non-uniform resistance or when some wear or damage is evident, it needs to be replaced. The process of assembling is in reverse of disassembling with the exception that the coil springs are always placed with the paint mark at the bottom, the coil spring ends are always placed in the upper and lower seals and the nut on the piston rod is tightened to the required torque.
