How to disconnect and replace the Camshaft Position Sensor on Mazda 6?

Unplug the cable on the negative battery. On four-cylinder models, the CMP sensor will be installed at the left front of the valve cover at the top of the left end of the intake camshaft. Unattach the CMP sensor electrical connector, CMP sensor mounting bolt and remove the CMP sensor. Check the state of CMP sensor O-ring; in case it is damaged, ripped, or scarred, change it. Removal is the contrary of installation. In the case of V6, observe that each cylinder head has a CMP sensor, which is located on either the right end (3.0L engines) or the left end (3.7L engines). On 3.0Ls, in case of removing the CMP sensor off the head of the front cylinder, lift the wiring harness clip off the valve cover stud and lay it aside. Should the CMP sensor be removed off the rear cylinder head, there is a likelihood that the coolant reservoir will also need to be removed and stored out of the way, but the coolant lines are not to be disconnected. On engines of 3.7L, take out the air filter housing and air intake duct. This is because the front cylinder head CMP will be concealed behind the harness bracket, and this will require the removal of the bracket mounting bolts and the bracket itself. Unscrew the electrical connector of the CMP sensor and delete the CMP sensor mounting bolt and extract the sensor. Take out CMP sensor O-ring and check the condition of it; in case it is torn, broken, or in any other way damaged, change it. Installation: Lubricate sensor O-ring with clean engine oil, and otherwise, it goes in the opposite way as it came out.
