In order to take out the brake booster, you must first unhook the negative battery cable then pump out the brake fluid out of the master cylinder reservoir. Disconnect the brake lines of the master cylinder and unplug the fluid level sensor connector, when fitted. Clean the nuts connecting the master cylinder and the booster and strip off the master cylinder. Unplug the vacuum hose and check valve out of the power brake booster, then out of the inside of the passenger compartment, remove the cotter pin and clevis pin that attaches the booster pushrod to the brake pedal. Reduce or eliminate the steering column, and, with the vehicle inside, loosen the nuts connecting the booster to the dash panel; and withdraw the brake booster out of the engine compartment. To install, reconnect the brake booster to the dash panel, attach and tighten the connecting nuts up 14-19 ft. lbs. (19-25 Nm) of force on the inside of the car, and install the steering column again. Grease clevis pin and install using washers, using new cotter pin to fix it. Install the vacuum hose to the booster fitting once again, and the master cylinder assembly to brake booster mounting studs, screwing in the mounting nuts, and connecting the electrical connector to the brake fluid level sensor. Lastly, reinstall negative battery cable, fill brake fluid reservoir as necessary, bleed master cylinder, and in case brake pedal is mushy, bleed brake system at all the wheels and then test brake system.
