Do not use compressed air to blow away the parts of the brakes and do not inhale particles. Wipe the brake assembly using brake cleaner before any work and use an approved filtering mask. Cleaning with petroleum based solvents should be avoided, use brake system cleaner. The first step is to loosen lug nuts of the front wheel, then position the vehicle on jackstands and take off the wheel. Install one brake assembly at a time, with the other side as reference (if necessary). The brake assembly must be washed with brake system cleaner before any work is done. In inspecting the brake pads in terms of wear and tear, examine the
Brake Disc. Open the hood and take out the cap of the brake fluid reservoir. The C-clamp should be used to force the caliper piston to go back into its bore so that new pads can be installed keeping a check on the level of fluid to ensure that it does not overflow. To fit the lower caliper bolt, pivot the caliper upwards off the pads, making sure that the caliper is clamped in place and not supported by the brake hose. Removal of anti-rattle springs on the pads with their location being recorded. Check the rubber boots on whether there are cracks or wear and tear replacing them where needed. Take off the pads, shims and clips out of the bracket. Install new clips in the notches of the caliper bracket and the backs of the pads with anti-squeal compound applied to the contacts of the caliper and not to the friction surfaces on the brake pad. Install anti-rattle springs on the older models and place the pads between the clips and press them into the disc. Apply high temperature brake grease to the upper mounting bolt and make sure that the caliper piston has been fully pressed in before attaching the caliper to the pads. Apply grease of high temperature on the lower bolt and push it into the caliper and the boot then tighten it to a given torque. The same procedure should be carried out with the reverse wheel brake pad. Lastly, ensure that the brake fluid is at the correct level, refill the brake fluid accordingly, fit back the reservoir cap and pump the brake pedal a few times then check the level again.
