Mazda Tribute Air Filter

The Mazda Tribute Air Filter also protects the engine of the sport-utility by supplying it only with clean air, thus conserving power and maintaining the fuel consumption level. Each gallon of gasoline will require close to 10,000 gallons of incoming air, and as such it is crucial to have dust, sand, leaves, and particles as small as five microns trapped to ensure long life. A pleated paper medium is applied to prevent this grime by pushing the airstream past a thousand tiny fibers which entrap anything smaller than one tenth the size of a human hair and allow the engine to continue to breathe at will. As the surface becomes congested, airflow becomes reduced, performance declines, and fuel economy suffers, thus Mazda suggests that the surface should be replaced every so often. There have been two prominent layouts over the years. In older carbureted engines which were installed on earlier Mazda passenger vehicles, a circular component was mounted on the top of the carburetor and could be removed by undoing a wing nut. Later Mazda crossovers such as the Tribute use electronic fuel injection, with a flat rectangular panel fitted within a remote air box, which is opened with a few clips, to ensure hot under-hood air is not exposed to the intake. Most of the units are dry paper, regardless of shape, and there are oiled cotton designs applied where more airflow is required in the engine. Whatever the mode your car is powered by, putting in a new Air Filter only takes you a few minutes, but it will have your engine breathing more appropriately and protecting the internal components against coarse grit. When changing the Air Filter according to the recommended time, the crossover will maintain its punch, burn cleanly and will not wear out too quickly.

Mazda Tribute Air Filter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and replace the air filter on Mazda Tribute?
    A:
In all 2012 and earlier models, except 2009 and later V6 models, the air filter is housed in a housing on the left hand side of the engine compartment. To install the air filter element, weaken the clamp on the inlet tube, unscrew the clamps holding the halves of the housing, disassemble the cover, and remove the air filter element. Check the filter; should it be dirty replace it or, should it be only slightly dusty, you can blow it out with compressed air at the back to the front. Do not wash or oil the pleated paper filter, and in case it cannot be washed satisfactorily, change it. Care not to drop anything into the housing when the cover is off and never drive with the air cleaner off because engines wear out and may start a fire. Be sure to wipe inside the housing then install the new filter and regardless place the housing back in its place. On 2009 and later V6 just release the clips on the air filter cover, remove the air filter cover, remove the filter element and then follow cleaning and installation steps. In 2013 and subsequent models that have the 1.5L, 1.6L, or the 2.0L engines, unscrew the air cleaner cover fasteners, remove the filter, wipe the housing, then put in the new filter with the tab facing down and screw in the cover. In the case of the 2.5L engine, unclips will be found on the cover, open it, take off the filter, keeping in mind how it is placed, clean the housing, and make sure that the cover is firmly attached.
