In order to start the process, it is necessary to unplug the cable with the negative battery terminal. In 2012 and earlier models, unscrew the electrical connector in the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor and in 2008 and earlier V6 models, also loosen the air intake duct hose clamp screw. Disconnect the accelerator cable to the air intake duct on 2008 and earlier four-cylinder models, and the crankcase vent hose on the V6 models. Unclamp the screws in the air intake duct hose at the MAF sensor end and disconnect the air intake duct to the air filter box and loosen/removing any pins on the 2009 and later V6 model that may be required. To access the air filter box, in 2008 and earlier models, take off the mounting bolt of the air filter box, then withdraw the box directly upwards to uncouple it with its grommets and fresh air inlet duct. Check the rubber grommets to ensure they are not damaged and plug in any missing then refit the air filter box, with plenty of locator pins and air intake mouth fitted. Once the battery has been connected again, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) needs to be re-trained to use its idle and fuel trim strategy to perform optimally. In models 2013 and beyond, loosen the intake air hose at the air filter box and unconnect, followed by the connector of the MAF sensor. In 2014 and later models, loosen the screws that connect the intake air duct and hose to the air filter box, unhook the flap that holds the rubber on and pull the box back to release it into the rubber bushings. The process of installation is the opposite of the process of removal by removing the air filter box of the vehicle. To detach the fresh air inlet duct of the 2008 and earlier models, remove battery, battery tray, air filter box, and then fresh air inlet duct retaining bolt. Once the battery is reconnected, the PCM has to reassess its idle and fuel trim strategy. To loosen the lug nuts of the fresh air inlet duct resonator of 2008 and earlier models, raise the vehicle on jackstands and remove the lug nuts of the left front wheel. Take out the left inner fender splash shield by detaching the pin-type retainers, screws, then take out the resonator retaining bolt and detach the resonator and the fresh air inlet insulator/locator pin grommet checking both parts of the installation. Installation is simply the opposite of removal with any broken parts replaced.
