To replace and install wiper motor in 1972 to 1984 model, the battery ground cable must be disconnected, the wiper arms and blades are then removed by removing the locking nuts. Then remove the rubber cap, the nut and tapered spacer, and the rubber grommet on each pivot shaft and then the two motor and bracket retaining bolts and washers. This can be done by disconnecting the wiper motor leads at the multiple connector and adjust the motor and bracket assembly, taking note of the location of the ground washer and the rubber washer at the bracket mounting holes, and removing the plastic water shield. To detach the motor with the bracket, take off the retaining clip holding the linkage with the motor output arm and make sure to keep the position of the washers in mind when removing the motor. Attach the wiper motor on the bracket using the four retaining bolts and then attach the washers and fit the linkage on the output arm of the motor using the retaining clip. Install plastic water shield, motor and bracket assembly in the truck and connect the multiple connector again. Install the last items at this stage are the washers, spacers and the nuts on the pivot shafts, the wiper arms and blades, a process which should always be done with the motor in the Park position and the wipers adjusted so that there is a clearance of 20mm (0.787 in.) between the tips of the blades and the windshield moulding before returning the battery cable and ensuring the wipers are working. In models between 1986 and 1989, you can start by removing the wiper arm/blade assembly but you need to be careful that you do not perplex the various arms. Take the cowl off by removing the rubber seal on the leading edge of the cowl, unbolstering and removing the cowl, and removing the covers of the access holes. Prior to removing the wiper linkage, remove the bolts attaching the wiper shaft drives, align the position of the wiper crank arm to the face of the wiper motor and disconnect the wiper linkage to the wiper motor crank arm. Disassemble the wiper motor, disconnect the wiring harness, and then reassemble in the same sequence putting the parked height of the wiper arms at 20mm (0.787 in.) above the blade end to the windshield moulding, and torque the arm retaining nuts to 8-10 ft.lb.
