How to remove and install Automatic Transmission Shift Levers and their shift knobs on Mazda 3?

To install or remove the shift knob unscrew it off the shifter and to install it follow the process of removing in the reversed order. The shift lever assembly process should start with disconnection of the cable with the negative battery terminal and waiting a minimum of two minutes. Then take off the floor console. Carefully pry the cable eye on the ballstud on the shifter with a trim tool and remove the cable on the back of the housing with the same trim tool, being careful not to bend the cable where it meets the housing or it can be damaged. Unscrew the electrical connector at the shift assembly, followed by removing the four mounting bolts then dismount the shift assembly out of the floor. To install, do the steps in reverse and also reconnect the shift cable whenever it has been pulled off.
