Removal and installation of the upper arm requires the front end to be elevated and put on jackstands underneath the frame firstly, then take off the wheels and put the lower arm on a floor jack. The second step is to remove the cotter pin and nut of the upper
Ball Joint and dislodge the pin and the nut with a ball joint separator tool. Take out the bushings and dust seals on the ends of the upper arm shaft, then the nuts and bolts that hold the upper arm shaft to the support bracket, and make a note of the number and the position of the shims underneath the nuts to make the wheel go in the right direction. Checks on the wear or damage of all parts and replace any questionable part. Confirm the preload of the ball joint using the pull scale and adapter with the ball joint being 40 lb. or less upon shaking the ball joint stud. To install, reverse the steps to be followed by loosening the upper arm shaft mounting bolts to 60-68 ft. lbs. and the ball joint nut to 30-37 ft. lbs.
