The sensor can be tested by first taking it out of the axle housing followed by connection of Digital Volt/Ohm Meter (DVOM) to the sensor terminals where the reading should be between 0.9 and 2.5k Ohms, however, when the result is not in this range, the sensor must be replaced. To remove and install, start with cleaning the area of the axle housing containing the sensor thoroughly followed by removing the electrical harness plug and the sensor hold-down bolt. Draw the sensor directly out of the axle housing making sure the axle remains clean so that no dirt gets into. Installation: When installing a new sensor and lubricating the O-ring, apply clean engine oil to the entire O-ring or when reinstalling the old sensor be sure to clean the sensor and apply a fresh O-ring that has been coated with clean engine oil. Insert the sensor carefully into the housing and align the hole on the mounting flange with the threaded hole and then tighten the hold-down bolt to 25-30 ft. lbs. (34-40Nm) on the Navajo and 12-16 ft. lbs. (16-22Nm) on the Pickup/MPV.
