To change and fit the oil pan to several types of engines, one should start by unattaching the cable of battery ground and lifting the vehicle on jackstands before emptying the oil. In the case of the 2.2L engine, a skid plate should be removed, the engine should be supported with the help of a floor jack or a shop crane, and the crossmember must be removed. Unbolt the oil pan, disconnect the idler arm, remove the engine mount gusset plates, the bell housing front cover and then unbolt the oil pan. Wipe all gasket surfaces and the oil pan parts. During installation, a new oil pan gasket with oil resistant sealer or RTV silicone is used and the bolts tightened to recommended values of torque. In the case of the 2.6L engine, it is done by draining the oil, loosening the oil pan bolts, cleaning the surfaces and replacing the gasket and then re-assembling. The 3.0L engine involves disconnection of battery, emptying of oil, disconnection of under cover and oil pan, making sure that it is well sealed before replacing. In the case of 4.0L engine, loosen the engine assembly, clean all the gasket surfaces, and apply a new rear main bearing cap wedge seal and oil pan gasket, make sure that all the spacers are in position to avoid damage and leakages. Once reassembled, reconnect battery and look at leakages.
