The fuel filter on all models except the Millenia is mounted on a bracket in the left rear side of the engine compartment, next to, or under the brake master cylinder fluid reservoir. The fuel filter of the Millenia is positioned under an access cover in the trunk, and is reached by removing the trunk mat. The maintenance intervals should be followed in the process of servicing the fuel filter. One should be careful not to bring fuel spray or vapors in contact with spark or open flame and a dry chemical fire extinguisher should be easily accessible. In the case of other than the Millenia, the fuel filter may be covered by access components, and therefore, any material that blocks the accessibility should be removed to allow easy replacement. This is done by first venting the fuel system, and then by disconnecting the negative battery cable. In the event of a necessity, the air intake hose or filter housing must be taken off and the fuels line clamps removed. Fuel lines should be removed out of the filter and the ends should be capped to avoid spillage. The fuel filter may then be taken out of the mounting bracket and the direction of the arrow on the flow noted so that the replacement filter is installed in the correct direction. Installation entails putting the new filter in the bracket with flow arrow facing the right direction, tightening the bracket bolt and nut, reconnecting the fuel lines and reattaching the components that were removed. In the case of Millenia, the procedure begins with switching off the ignition and opening up the fuel system pressure followed by disconnection of the negative battery cable, trunk mat, and the service hole cover. Both ends of the filter are disintegrated, and the filter is removed off the bracket. The new filter is fitted in the bracket, tightened using the bracket nut and the fuel lines are reconnected. Lastly, the service hole cover is installed, the trunk mat is fitted and the negative battery cable is attached and the engine is started to ensure that there is no leakage of fuel.
