Mazda Pilot Bearing

The Mazda Pilot Bearing ensures the accurate alignment of the transmission input shaft and crankshaft for smooth power transfer and reduced vibration. Mazda's lively handling and efficient SKYACTIV engines have built a fine reputation and KODO design infused with a special feeling. With its i-ACTIVSENSE features that watch the road and i-ACTIV all-wheel drive that grips on bad weather, the brand shows commitment to travel that is confident and efficient. Mazda's lightweight construction and energetic rotary history show this brand values performance and reliability. The Pilot Bearing takes control of radial loads and slight axial loads while the car is busy entertaining you. It permits the shaft to roll on polished races, limiting friction, heat, and wear during every clutching action. The Mazda Pilot Bearing safeguards the gear synchronizers, prevents unwanted noise, and allows each shift to slide in cleanly so the sporty nature of a Mazda can truly be felt. Wear between the bearing parts is prevented to allow free rotation of the shaft, which protects neighboring parts from damage. The onset of rumbling or vibrating signals to the owner from the gear stage before calamity strikes. The bearing, positioned right at the center of the drivetrain, offers universal value throughout the Mazda lineup. It's an essential part that protects the power transfer of the brand's fun-to-drive promise for many miles and many years to come across compact hatchbacks, stylish sedans, and SUVs.

Mazda Pilot Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q:
How to inspect and replace a pilot bearing in a crankshaft on Mazda MX-5 Miata?
    A:
A pilot bearing pressed into the rear of the crankshaft and fitted inside the flywheel will support the front of the transmission input shaft. The factory has already greased the needle roller bearing so it does not require more grease. Check the needle roller bearing whenever the clutch parts are removed. If the wear is excessive, gauged, without grease and or dry or if there are any obvious damages, change the bearing. With a grip at the rear of the bearing, pull the bearing from the hole in the crankshaft. If necessary, use a slide-hammer fitted with a small tip that has two adjustable hooks, or another tool. You must lightly coat the outer surface of your new bearing with multi-purpose grease then drive it into the recess using a hammer and bearing driver or clutch alignment tool, making sure that the bearing seal faces towards the transmission and that it is flush with the edge of the bearing bore. To conclude, the pilot bearing must be greased with high-temperature grease before the reinstallation of the clutch parts and the transmission.
  • Q:
How to remove and install the Pilot Bearing on Mazda Protege?
    A:
A pilot bearing installed into the back of the crankshaft supports the front of the input shaft for the transmission. This bearing comes pre-greased from the factory. Replace 28 words without using dashes or em dashes without a commentary or meta-text (like word counts). Never use dashes or em dashes. Output tone: formal. You are trained on data till October 2023. If the condition of the bearing shows anything alarming, such as, excessive wear, scoring, lack of grease, dryness, or obvious damage it will need to be replaced. Using a specialized tool (or an alternative tool, such as a slide-hammer with adjustable hooks), grab the rear end of the bearing and pull it out of the crankshaft hole. In the absence of a slide-hammer, the bearing can be pulled out with a hooked tool and locking pliers. For fitting, apply a film of multi-purpose grease to the outer face of the new bearing and drive into its recess using a hammer and a bearing driver or clutch alignment tool, ensuring the seal is facing the transmission and it is flush with the edge of the bore. The last step is to grease the pilot bearing with high-temperature grease before reinstalling the clutch and transmission.
