Loose lug nuts, jack up the car and place it safely resting on jackstands and then dismount the wheel. The next step is to take out the tie-rod end and jam nut. Take a pair of pliers to unscrew the outer rack and pinion boot clamp which is fastened with a band-type clamp and can be easily unclamped. Use the diagonal cutters to cut off the inner boot clamp, and the inner ends of the rack and pinion boots are still attached by clamps that have to be removed. Slide the boot off and then before attaching the new one, tape the threads and serrations on the end of the steering rod so that the small end of the new boot is not damaged. Install new clamps and put the new boot on the steering gear until it fits into the groove of the steering rod. Take out the tape, and screw the tie-rod end in. Lastly, attach the wheel and lug nuts, pull down the car, and attach the lug nuts to the right amount of torque.
