In the case of 2007 and older, the steering wheel and airbag are serviced together. Open the ignition key to Off and unplug the negative battery cable, and wait at least two minutes. Place the steering wheel in a straight position and unzip the bottom cover to get the airbag harness. Unscrew the connector lock and disconnect the airbag electrical connector and ensure that the bolt is not loosened overboard. Unscrew the pinion shaft in the cover until the steering wheel may be removed, then remove the steering wheel and unscrew the horn connector, and lay the assembly aside in a safe place. When required, undress the steering column covers to reach the clockspring, lift the electrical connector off it, and rip it off the combination switch by removing three screws. Installation of the clockspring should be in the middle with the arrow facing upwards; in case the hub was turned, adjust the clockspring. Install the steering column covers when removed, ensure that the horn connector is plugged in, the steering wheel is placed on the shaft, tighten the pinion shaft and reach the electrical connector of the airbag module. Once the battery has been reconnected, the Powertrain Control Module will have to relearn its idle and fuel mixture trim strategy. In 2008 and more recent models, step 1: Turn the front wheels straight forward and unhook the negative battery cable. Releasing the airbag module is done using a small tool to pull off the steering wheel and then the airbag and the horn connectors are disconnected and the airbag module is taken off and kept in a safe place. Check to make sure that the steering wheel is centered before the steering wheel is removed, the wiring is unconnected to the clockspring and the steering wheel bolt removed. With 2008-2012 models, a steering wheel puller is used, whereas with 2013 and beyond models, the wheel is supposed to release easily. To ensure that the clockspring does not rotate when it is not installed, secure the center rotor of the clockspring and center the clockspring afterwards, before putting it back. Removal is the opposite of the installation process and the steering wheel bolt is tightened to a given torque and clicking of the airbag module will mean the correct positioning of the airbag module. To remove clocksprings and install them, also you have to take out the steering wheel in the case it has not been removed, then disconnect the clockspring electrical connector, and unlock the tabs and pull it off the steering column but make sure that you center it when reattaching.
