Subsequent models have an extra airbag unit on the right side of the instrument panel, which is operated by an SAS unit in the lower middle of the instrument panel, instead of sensors on the front of the car. Other important systems in these systems are the clockspring that supplies the battery to the steering wheel airbag and the airbag readiness light in the instrument cluster. The driver airbag inflator device in the middle of the steering wheel is activated by the electrical signal sent to the bag nearly immediately, and the clockspring assembly sends the electrical signal to the bag irrespective of the steering wheel position. The passenger airbag is bigger than the driver airbag and it is attached in the right end of the instrument panel and has textured trim cover which tears in case of inflation. When there is a crash, the SAS provides power to the SRS when battery power is turned off as well as verifies the SRS every time the vehicle is turned on, which reflects its condition as indicated by the airbag readiness light.
