In order to take off the rack and pinions, loosen the lug nuts on the front wheel, first, raise the front of the car and place it on jackstands making sure that the parking brake is on and the rear wheels blocked. Take off both front wheels and then loosen the ends of the tie-rods and the steering arms. Put a drain pan below the vehicle and loose the pressure and the return lines of the rack and pinions with a flare-nut wrench and cap the lines to avoid loss of fluids. On 2WD models, identify the relative position of the steering shaft with the pinion shaft, loosen the coupler pinch bolt, suspend the rack and pinions and loosen the mounting bolts to disassemble the rack and pinions and subframe. Gently move the rack and pinions downward and un screw the clamps and clamp bolts. In 4WD models, loosen up the intermediate shaft-to-rack and pinions pinch bolt, loosen up the steering column mounting bolts and loosen up the coupler to the rack and pinions. Take out the front driveshaft and unbolt the front differential and joint shaft assembly and slide it to the rear. Disassemble the rack and pinions by undoing the mounting bolts, rotating the housing 90 degrees, and working the rack and pinions out underneath the car. Installation is the opposite of removal, and one is to pour the recommended fluid into the
Power Steering Pump, bleed the system and inspect on leaks. Lastly, make sure that the front end is aligned by a professional.
