Unattach the cable at the negative terminal of the battery and then wait at least 2 minutes before continuing. Unscrew the lug nuts of the front wheel, elevate the front part of the car, and put it on jackstands. Use the parking brake and take off the wheels, and then the engine undercover splash shield. Should you have power steering fitted, lay a drain pan under the rack and pinions, loosen the power steering pressure and lines and cover up or seal the ends to avoid excessive loss of fluid and contamination. Indicate the connection of the steering column universal joint at the rack and pinions input shaft, loosen the universal joint pinch bolt and decompose the intermediate shaft U-joint with input shaft. Disconnect
Steering Knuckle arms and tie-rod ends. Incidentally, use the rack and pinions, and loosen the mounting bolts that connect the rack and pinions to the steering column shaft and unmount the steering column shaft to the rack and pinions input shaft and take the rack and pinions assembly. Inspect the clock-spring, and position the clockspring connector in case the steering wheel has been accidentally turned. Check the mounting grommets of rack and pinions to ensure there is no excessive wear or deterioration and replace where needed. Install rack and pinions into position, joining rack and pinions input shaft with steering shaft universal joint aligning the marks and install rack and pinions mounting brackets and bolts, tapping, with the required torque. Install the
Tie Rod Ends to steering knuckle arm, fit universal joint pinch bolt and clamp it to required torque. Should it be fitted with power steering, lay the hose of power steering pressure and power steering return hose to rack and pinions and fill in the steering power pump reservoir with suggested fluid. Reduce the vehicle and bleed the steering system and have a dealer service department or alignment shop check the alignment.
