Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then remove the consoles and control box side covers. Next, take out the indicator panel screws and lift the indicator panel. Unscrew the nut securing the shift cable to the shift lever and pull the cable end from the lever, noting that with the consoles removed, two cables enter the front of the shift mechanism: the shift cable on the left and the shift-lock cable on the right. Unscrew the bolts securing the shift cable to the vehicle and lay the cable clear of the shift assembly. Loosen the nut on the front, cable side of the shift-lock cable and move the cable clear of the shift assembly, being careful not to turn or loosen the nut on the back, shift assembly side of the bracket. Disconnect the electrical connectors by unplugging the shift assembly electrical connector. Remove the four nuts that secure the shift assembly to the vehicle, starting with the two mounting nuts at the back and then the two nuts at the front. Lift the shift assembly clear of the mounting studs to remove it from the vehicle, and for installation, follow the reverse of the removal process. Finally, adjust the shift cable as needed.
