A/C Expansion Valve systems convert high-pressure liquid refrigerant from the compressor to lower-pressure vapor at the evaporator, which cools the airflow for delivery to the vents. This conversion typically occurs through a sudden change in tubing size, and many vehicles feature a removable controlled orifice in one of the AC pipes at the firewall. In models from 2008 and later, an A/C Expansion Valve serves the same function as a controlled orifice. To remove the A/C Expansion Valve, the air conditioning system must first be discharged by a licensed technician, followed by disconnecting the electrical connector to the pressure transducer and unscrewing the nut to disconnect the refrigerant lines from the A/C Expansion Valve located on the firewall above the heater hoses. After removing the two bolts securing the A/C Expansion Valve, the valve can be taken out. Installation involves reversing the removal process, ensuring to replace the gasket seals and lubricate all AC line fittings and O-rings with refrigerant oil.
