Mazda Camshaft Seal

The camshaft's main purpose is to ensure that the car moves. It works along with pistons using lobes, also called cams, to push and open their valves during their rotation. The Mazda camshaft seal is located between the cylinder head and camshaft, which seals the space between them that is above the head from below the valve cover. Proper lubrication is necessary for camshafts to function properly, as they are one of many moving components within an engine. Signs showing that there might be a problem with the Mazda camshaft seal include oil leaks behind the timing cover, misalignment, and wear on the timing belt, which may lead to ignition failure in some cases. If these symptoms come up, stop driving right away so that you can ascertain if this requires being replaced by someone else.

Whenever you need replacements, opt for genuine Mazda Camshaft Seals. Because they meet the manufacturer's criteria, it guarantees that replacements fit perfectly. Thus, these make better choices for people who care about driving. Why should you shop at MazdaPartsNow.com? We sell genuine Mazda Camshaft Seals. Mazda Camshaft Seal Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the camshaft seal after disconnecting the negative battery cable on Mazda MPV?
    A:
Unplug the negative battery cable on the battery and position the engine at TDC at the compression stroke of cylinder number 1. Take out the drivebelts, crankshaft pulley and timing belt. Clamp the camshaft sprocker still with Mazda tool no. 49 H012 010 or similar one, then unscrew the sprocket bolt, being careful not to break or ruin the sprocket by the special composite material. Slide the sprocket off the camshaft and take the old oil seal off the shaft using a screwdriver or any pick tool, taking care not to cut or scratch the camshaft or the seal bore. Wipe down the surfaces prior to installing the new seal and put a light coat of oil onto the surfaces of the seal and lightly drive the seal in with a seal driver or with a large socket with a slightly smaller outside diameter than the seal. Fit the sprocket, with the notch in the sprocket over the key in the camshaft and the R or L mark in the 12 o'clock position and also ensure that the timing mark on the sprocket is matched with its corresponding mark on the cylinder head. Lastly, re-assemble the other parts in the same order in which they were disassembled.
  • Q: How to remove and install a camshaft seal on Mazda Protege?
    A:
To take off the camshaft seal, you have to first unattach the cable on the negative battery terminal, block rear wheels and park brake. On the compression stroke, insert the position cylinder position number one to TDC then loosen the camshaft sprocket bolt(s) and sprocket(s). In 1.8l DOHC models, remove the timing belt sprocket rear shield. With a fine screwdriver, pry the camshaft seal out of the bore taking care not to nick or scratch the camshaft or the seal bore. Instead, pierce a little hole in the seal, insert a tiny screw into the seal, and then use the screw to remove the seal off the bore, once more taking care not to spoil the camshaft or seal bore. To install, wipe a clean engine oil in the lip of the new camshaft oil seal and jam it in a bit by hand. Tap the seal with a short piece of pipe or a tube to the same depth as the original seal or to the same depth as the edge of the camshaft cap. Lastly, install back the rest of the parts in the reverse sequence and start the engine to ensure that it functions properly.
