First, to remove the component, disconnect the cable with the negative battery terminal. Unscrew the lug nuts on the right front wheel, lift the front of the car and rest it safely on jackstands before taking off the wheel. Then unscrew the splash shield on the fender and unscrew the drivebelt. Grab the harmonic balancer with a two-pin spanner and loosen the retaining bolt before using a three-jaw puller to remove the harmonic balancer, making sure to use the correct adapter or it may be damaged. Cautiously lift the seal out of the timing chain cover using a seal puller, keeping the depth and rise of the seal in mind to install the new seal.
Installation: To install, check the pulley surface and the front cover to confirm that the surface does not have any imperfections, rectify imperfections when needed. Apply clean engine oil on the new seal and then fit it with an appropriate seal driver with the lip facing inwards. On certain engines, pour RTV sealant in the keyway and inner bore of the pulley, lubricate the outer sealing surface and fit the pulley shortly after applying the sealant, positioning the keyway with the crankshaft key. Install the pulley bolt to the required torque, and it is advisable that a new pulley bolt is installed. Install the rest of the parts in that order, screw the lug nuts of the wheels, re-connect the battery and lastly start the engine to ensure that there is no oil leakage.
