- Q: How to perform removals and installations of leaf springs on a truck on Mazda B2200?A:To do removals and installations, raise the back of the truck using jackstands under the frame, being careful because the rear leaf springs are under a lot of tension, and can cause severe injuries. Put the weight of the rear axle on a floor jack and then unbolt the lower ends of shock absorbers. Take out spring U-bolt and plate, spring front bolt, then the rear shackle nuts and shackle. Stick the spring out of the truck, attach the new leaf spring and put it back in place then place the back shackle and front mount bolt so that the spring U-bolts fit tightly. When the truck has come as low as it will go on the wheels, use a wrench to tighten the nut and bolt as follows: rear shackle nuts 58 ft. lbs., 2-wheel drive U-bolt nuts 58 ft. lbs., 4-wheel drive U-bolt nuts 101 ft. lbs., front spring pin nut 72 ft. lbs., and shock absorber 58 ft. lbs. In the case of the Navajo, lift the vehicle and raise it in such a manner that the rear axle is suspended with the tires on the ground. Unscrew the U-bolt nuts out of the plate, and screw the U-bolt out of the nut and bolt on the front, then loosen the upper and lower nuts and bolts at the rear of the spring. Take the spring and the shackle assembly out of the back shackle. Installation To install, make sure that the spring is in the shackle, screw the upper shackle spring bolt and nut with the bolt head facing outwards, position the front end of the spring in the bracket and screw the bolt and nut. Next install the shackle in the rear bracket and then install the nut and bolt after which the spring is put on the top of the axle with the tie bolt on the hole that is created in the seat. Bring the vehicle down to the ground and tighten the spring U-bolt nuts to 65-75 ft. lbs, front spring bolt to 75-115 ft. lbs and rear shackle nuts and bolts to 75-115 ft. lbs.
