The components will be removed by first lifting and supporting the front end on jackstands and then removing the wheels and locking hubs. The next things to do are to remove the caliper, but leave the brake line attached; then the caliper mounting plate and knuckle arm. Disassemble the stabilizer bar and tie rod end, unscrew the lower part of the shock absorber and take out the snapring and spacer in the outer part of the axle shaft. Lift the lower control arm using a floor jack, detach the upper and lower ball joints of the knuckle, drop the jack and pull off the knuckle. Once the splash shield has been removed, remove the shaft off the differential. To take apart, hold the shaft in a soft-jawed vise, and strip off the inner joint boot with the pliers, and slide it down the shaft. Unscrew the circlip and snapring, and then remove the ball cage assembly and balls. Turn the cage so that it no longer touches the inner ring, and, assuming that the boot is to be reused, wrap the splines of the shaft with tape. The outer end boot may be taken off by driving off dust cover and boot protector and then take out the band with the help of pliers. Checks to be made during inspection: bending, twisting, splines worn, and damage or over-play in inner and outer joints. To assemble, wrap tape on the splines and fit a new boot and band, apply a press mechanism on the boot protector and dust cover. Install inner end boot and band, install inner ring in the cage, install balls, fill the cage with grease and install the cage and snapring. Apply the band to the joint and make sure that the right length of the shaft is applied. To install, change the clip on the differential output shaft, apply clean transmission fluid to the differential oil seal and slide the axle shaft onto the differential shaft. Install the knuckle and hub on the shaft, attach the ball joints and fix the nuts using new cotter pins. Install the spacer and snapring, attach the shock absorber and stabilizer bar and torque the bolts accordingly. Lastly, attach the tie rod end and fit in the caliper support and knuckle arm, then the caliper, wheels, locking hub and splash shield.
