- Q: How to remove and inspect the distributor cap and distributor rotor on Mazda B2200?A:The 2.2L, 2.6L and 3.0L have a distributor ignition system with the 4.0L engine in the Navajo having a distributor-less ignition. In order to unscrew the distributor cap, unscrew the three retaining screws and straight up the cap after labeling all the spark plug wires with the corresponding cylinder number. In case wires are not slack, label them in advance and then remove them off the cap. To install, undo the steps that were used to remove, careful of the square alignment locator and screw tightening. Removal of distributor rotor To remove the distributor rotor, remove the cap then pull the rotor straight out of the shaft and armature while ensuring that it is aligned correctly during replacement. To inspect the parts, wash the distributor cap and rotor by use of soap and water then dry using compressed air. Inspect the cap on the possibility of cracks, a worn carbon button, or corrosion of terminals and force them to be replaced in case they find anything. Inspect the inside of the boot to determine whether it is corroded or not; the connector of the metal must fit the connector of the spark plug snugly, in which case, crimp the connector. Wipe the wire with your hand and look at it without bending sharply to the assessment of burns or cracks.
