How to install a rear Crankshaft Seal on Mazda 3?

The unitary rear main oil seal is forced into the rear main oil seal carrier that is attached at the back of the block. The transaxle and the flywheel/driveplate, then the oil pan should be removed. The second step is to unbolt the oil seal and carrier, then clean up the mating surface of the oil seal carrier on the cylinder block and the crankshaft, taking care to wipe off and polish any burrs or protrusions on the crankshaft which might have led to the failure of the oil seal. Slightly lubricate the inside lip of the new seal with clean engine oil and then apply a durable two-inch wide strip of plastic that is very thin and durable or cut two liter beverage bottle around the interior circumference of the seal and use it as a liner. Having the plastic seal liner/tool, insert the new carrier with the seal factory-fitted by inserting it in the contact area of the crankshaft by sliding it across. Bolt the oil seal carrier bolts in and finger tighten them whilst holding the carrier in place making sure that the bottom of the seal carrier is in contact with the bottom of the edge of the engine block so that it fits in perfectly and then tighten the carrier mounting bolts as poor fitting can result in leaks through the oil pan. Gradually peel off the plastic liner or tool to make sure that the new seal is touching the crankshaft mating surface in the proper position, and then screw the oil seal carrier to the required torque. The rest of the installation is in the needless reverse sequence of removal.

How to remove and install a front crankshaft seal on Mazda 6?

Take off crankshaft pulley. Insert a screwdriver or hook device to loosen the seal, being careful not to scratch the timing chain cover bore and nose and seal surface of the crankshaft. Otherwise, punch a little hole on both sides of the seal and screw into the seal with self-tap screws, to peel the seal off. Wipe the seal areas on the engine cover and on the crankshaft and clean and wipe it with clean engine oil. Install a new seal by pushing it in the timing chain cover. After beginning, a seal driver or an appropriate socket of the right size is used and the seal is carefully driven into position making sure to do it squarely and evenly into the engine cover being completely square when fitted. Apply clean engine oil to the lip of the seal where it makes contact to the crankshaft before the crankshaft pulley is installed.
